Live a unique experience in the south of the Argentinian Patagonia, contemplate magnificent landscapes, ancient glaciers, great lakes and snowy peaks; go through mountain trails with different difficulties; go through native forests plenty of ñires and lengas.

To the southwest of Santa Cruz, 90 kilometers far from the mythical “Ruta 40”, after touring the entire extensión of Viedma lake by a pavemented road, we arrive to Chaltén.

Going down the patagonian steppe in its fullness until reaching the Andes mountains, we arrive at the destination that will delight the sight and the soul. Chaltén is situated in a privileged place at the edge of the northern zone of “Los Glaciares National Park”, therefore nature is its environment.

Over the years it became a touristic mountain village, receiving a great number of visitors from all over the world, interested in visiting the majestic Fitz Roy, Cerro Torre and the numerous granite needles that sorround both.

Chaltén was founded on October 12th, 1985 for geopolitical reasons, in order to strengthen sovereignty in the area populated from the beginning of the twentieth century. Chaltén was declared  “the trekking capital” on July 28th in 1994, due to the wide range of paths to develop this activity thanks to the geographical peculiarity of the area. It´s important to remark that paths have different kind of difficulties: some of them are easy and others involve physical requirements. The most visited paths are: Laguna de los Tres, Laguna Capri and Laguna Torre, which are signposted and have been adapted to facilitate Access to the most important panoramic points without interfering with the natural environment.

Chaltén offers a wide range of services aimed to optimize typical mountain activities of the destination, such as: experienced guides, organized tours, camping equipment, clothing and other needings to develop in a comfortable and safe way, always preserving the environment of this unique place. For those looking for peace and comfort, Chaltén offers different options to accomodate and restaurants to enhance your stay with stories and memories of climbers and pioneers who make our Patagonian identity.
