This is an exciting and demanding tour placed in an unexplored corner in El Chaltén. This trekking above Cagliero Glacier combines a hike around the beautiful native forest in the valley of Río Diablo in Estancia Los Huemules and the action and excitement progressing on the rock through a vía ferrata. The tour begins at 8 in El Chaltén where a vehicle will pick you up to go to the head of the trail located 16 kilometers away in Estancia Los Huemules, a natural and private reserve situated on the way to Lago del Desierto. During the first hour and a half hiking, we will go through a lenga native forest on a path away from the most classic and visited paths that go from El Chaltén to the National Park. Towards the South, the imposing silhouette of the north face of Cerro Chaltén will follow your steps until you reach Laguna del Diablo. Once in the lagoon, the path continues along a stony area until reaching the vía ferrata.

Via Ferrata tracks are rocky tracks with little difficulties that have been previously prepared with steps and Steel cables. Guides will place the harness and explain how to use the equipment to move autonomously and secure, accompanying you all the time.

Due to the excitement of this part of the tour, the journey in the vía ferrata is probably a tour itself. While you are gaining height in the rocks, the mountain landscape changes its perspective. At the end of the track, you will reach the viewpoint that allows you to appreciate the south portion of Cagliero glacier that descends between Cerro Neumayer, Cagliero and Loma del Diablo. In a few minutes you will reach the front of the glacier where it´s time to put the crampons to start the walk above the glacier, which lasts approximately 3 hours. If weather conditions and the physical conditions of the group allow, an ice climbing practice can be performed. When finishing the walking above the glacier, the group will go to Vivac Cagliero, the geodetic domes of the company where a hot beverage will be waiting for you and we will share unique moments. We will start to return by the via ferrata going back by the path through Río Diablo´s valley until the head of the trail at the entrance of Los Huemules reserve, where you will arrive approximately at 17.30. The vehicle will be waiting for you to go back to El Chaltén.
