We invite you to walk through narrow corridors, peep into the cells to imagine how life in prison have been like. The most dangeours prisioners of the country lost their name and were identified with a number. Going through the gates of the historic pavilion is a trip to the past. Some prisioners gained great notority as the multiple murderer Mateo Banks that was known as “the mystic” or Cayetano Santos Godino sadly known as “the petiso orejudo” and the anarchist Simón Radowitsky. Severe discipline was imposed.

Those who had good behaviour worked outside the prison, for example in the forest where they arrive by train from the city centre. Because of the workshops, the prisioners fulfilled all the needings of the city. They have built streets, bridges, public buildings and in the prison operated the first printing press, the telephone, the electricity, among others essential services.

Nowadays there operates the Maritime Museum, the Prision Museum, the Antarctic Museum and the Museum of marine art.
